Artist Ryeom Kim visualizes the mise-en-scène of Ghetto, a gathering place for sexual minorities. On a night shrouded in deep darkness, akin to the glamorous stars, the artist captures the vibrant individuals in dimly lit bars or clubs. Composing the canvas to allow the work to be understood on its own terms, Kim approaches the artwork with an attitude akin to writing poetry through painting. Hoping that the audience embarks on a journey to find their own interpretations rather than relying on predetermined explanations through text or descriptions to understand the artwork.
김경렴 작가는 성소수자들이 모이는 게토의 미장센을 시각화한다. 짙은 어둠이 깔린 밤, 화려함을 뽐내는 별들처럼, 어두운 술집 또는 클럽 속 빛나는 사람들의 모습을 담아낸다. 작업이 그 자체로 이해될 수 있도록 화면을 구성하며, 시를 짓는 것 처럼 그림을 짓는 태도로 작업에 임한다. 관객들이 작업을 설명하는 텍스트 또는 설명에 의한 정해진 해석보다 저마다의 해석을 찾는 여정을 갖길 바란다.
